Why do I need “Alkali Resistant” glass fiber for the manufacture of GFRC?

Borosilicate glass fibers as used in glass fiber reinforced plastics, are not suitable for use in hydraulic cements due to the alkalinity. In time, non-alkali resistant glass fibers are degraded by the high alkaline environment of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC).
